arrive in Portland, you may wish to rent a car for the 90-minute trip to Northport. If not, we can arrange transportation with you.
Our conference will be held at Point Lookout, a luxury retreat overlooking Penobscot Bay and is nestled in the wooded tranquility of Ducktrap Mountain. It offers 379 acres of natural splendor with upscale accommodations and state-of-the-art conference facilities.
Resort guests have free access to a fully-equipped fitness center with breathtaking views of the Bay as well as six miles of scenic trails. Maybe you'll want to check out the artificial turf soccer field, the softball field, or the tennis courts. Or what about the basketball court, the squash court, or the racquetball court? Then, there's always the virtual golf room or the bowling alley!
Point Lookout offers three cabin styles: one bedroom/one bathroom; two bedroom/one bathroom; two bedroom/two bathroom; or three bedroom/two bathroom. But don't let the word "cabin" fool you: these are four-star accommodations with king-, queen-, and double- size beds; plush leather living room seating; well-equipped kitchens; and modern bathrooms.
All have screened porches and complimentary Wi-Fi. We have secured these accommodations for well below the published rate; in fact, if you reserve a bedroom in one of the huge three-bedroom cabins, you'll pay approximately $75 a night! Be sure to check out the photo gallery at www.visitpointlookout.com. (Note: all cabins are non-smoking, as are all public spaces in Maine.)
We hope you'll join us for an unforgettable Pre-Conference Tour. Arrive July 6 so you're ready for your choice of tours on July 7: spend the day in renowned Acadia National Park, where you can hike Mt. Cadillac, rest on beautiful Sand Beach, or be amazed at the power of the Atlantic Ocean at Thunder
Hole. Or perhaps you'd rather spend the day in Bangor, exploring the city that Stephen King calls home, and visit several of the sites in his books (as well as a peek at his home!)
On July 8, you have two more day trips to choose from: explore internationally acclaimed LL Bean and its hometown of Freeport; or head a few miles further and spend the day enjoying all that our largest city, Portland, has to offer. All day trips will offer shopping and dining opportunities. However, if you prefer to stay at Point Lookout, you may opt to enjoy Camden, a quaint Maine village where cruises and seafood are the specialty.
If you can't make the Pre-Conference, be sure to come for the 2009 NSTOY Annual Conference, to be held July 9-11, 2009. We'll get underway on Thursday, July 9, with an afternoon Welcome Reception, and the following days will be filled with business meetings, an Educators' Conference, area sightseeing, and great Maine foods. We are working hard to keep costs as low as possible for you, so you may even enjoy a refund of a portion of your meals/activities costs.
So what should you be doing now? Email me at gould.sherri@gmail.com with any questions. Mark your calendars, and make your airline reservations. If you'd like to present at the Educators' Conference, complete the Call for Proposals form.
Complete the Meal Reservations form, and mail it all to me (along with a check payable to MSTOY.) Once I've received your conference registration, I'll follow up with you regarding cabin reservations and pre-conference day trip reservations.
Make the 2009 NSTOY Conference a family vacation; make it a renewal of old friendships; make it a time of professional growth; make it a time to recharge and renew personally.
Maine is calling your name!
