The Maine Teachers of the Year have the great honor of hosting the 2009 National State Teachers of the Year Conference.
Along with their families and guests, Teachers of the Year, past and present, from across the United States and its territories are encouraged to attend this event July 9-12, 2009, in Northport, with a pre-conference planned for July 6-8. State TOY finalists and families are also very welcome!
As veteran NSTOY members know, but new members may not, each year NSTOY members convene in a different state. At this annual conference, our goals are to encourage and support excellence in teaching; collectively strive for the betterment of education; develop strategies for recognizing the importance of teachers and teaching; and hear reports on members' educational activities across America.
We also share our programs with college education majors and local teachers; investigate ways of placing TOYs' skills at the service of their respective communities; hear speakers of state and national reputation address important issues in education; elect NSTOY officers; conduct the general business of the organization; and develop and enjoy fellowship and friendship among TOYs and their families.
Organized in 1980 and committed to the education of America's youth, NSTOY endeavors to assume a leadership role in the promotion of educational excellence; encourage quality education for each individual through quality teaching; recognize the excellence and commitment of
professional educators; promote a positive self-image of education through public awareness; be actively involved in recruitment of dedicated people into the field of teaching; and stimulate the professional growth of NSTOY members and encourage their participation in a variety of educational activities.
As the 2005 Maine Teacher of the Year and the Second Vice President of the National State Teachers of the Year, I cordially invite each of you to join me in July! It is most cost-effective to fly into Portland (PWM). While Portland is a bit farther from Northport than Bangor's International Airport, the fares for PWM are more reasonable and the travel to the conference site is simpler. Once you
