Presentations at the Practitioner's Conference on July 10, 2010 provide TOYs an opportunity to share their expertise and best practices with colleagues, area teachers, and education majors.  It is one way TOYs can meet the goals of the National State Teachers of the Year organization and give back to education in the conference host state.  Here's how you can you contribute to our practitioners’ conference: In order to meet the current needs of educators in Colorado, we are looking for TOYs willing to facilitate presentations on the following topics:

  • Educational Advocacy (local, state, national)
  • Teachers at the Table Act
  • Best Practices (lesson plans for specific grade levels/subjects)
  • Secondary Literacy
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Differentiation for Diverse Learners
  • National Standards
  • Teacher Leadership
  • Critical Friends Groups
  • Experiences with Professional Organizations:  The National Writing Project, Smithsonian, National Board Certification, etc.
  • Staying Energized in Education through Professional Excellence
  • Assessment Strategies
  • Using Technology in Instruction
  • ELL Strategies
  • Using RTI in the Classroom
  • Data Driven Instruction
  • Incorporating 21st Century Skills
  • Other

Make plans to participate in the NSTOY Pre-conference July 6-8, 2009.  This is an opportunity for you and your guests to visit a few of the sites dear to Mainers, enjoy great Maine foods, experience Maine shopping, and explore a little of the Maine coast.  In addition, it's a great way to create new friendships and renew old ones with those who share your passion for the education profession.

The NSTOY main conference gets underway on July 9.  This is a time to renew your professional battery as you participate in the business of our organization as well as give back to the host state at the Educator's Conference.  You won't want to miss it!

May 10 is the deadline for NSTOY Scholarships. Application forms will be mailed out to dues paying members with the spring issue of NSTOY NEWS. Further information and application forms can be obtained from the Scholarship Chair

2009 TOYs were greeted in Dallas the last week in Jan. by Joan Brummond WY 95, NSTOY 1st Vice President, and Sherri Gould ME 05, 2nd Vice President. Read more at www.nstoy.org/newsletter.

In early February, Terry Kaldhusdal WI 07 and Maddie Fennell NE 07 were in DC to focus attention back on HR 2896 and S2090, the Teacher at the Table Act. They met with the staffs of Congresswoman McCarthy (NY), Congressman Terry (NE) and newly elected Senator Johanns (NE). They also met with a department of Education staff person who gave valuable information on how to get our proposal in front of Secretary Duncan.
