The Kay Battista Scholarship was established in memory of a former NSTOY member after her death in 1990. Kay was selected as New Jersey Teacher of the Year in 1972 and was also the runner-up for the honor of National Teacher of the Year. A vibrant educator who was intent upon "giving back to the profession from which we have received such honor," Kay originated the idea of NSTOY establishing a scholarship to help young people entering the teaching profession. Through her inspiration, the organization established a fund which awards scholarships annually to worthy students who aspire to become teachers. Eligibility Requirements:
- The applicant must be a graduating high school senior or a student seeking a first teaching certificate or graduate level degree in education.
- The applicant must have a "C" or better average in high school.
- The applicant must be endorsed by a member of National State Teachers of the Year.
