A big, warm thank you to NSTOY 2009 Conference Chair Sherri Gould ME 05, her husband Randy and son Taylor for hosting us earlier this month. What a wonderful week it was! Details of the activities, minutes of the meetings, and photographs will be posted at www.nstoy.org The new NSTOY Board of Directors is comprised of: President Joan Brummond WY 95, 1st Vice President Jeanie (Lena) Williams VA 92, 2nd Vice President Susan Ryder CO 07, Secretary Sherri Gould ME 05, Executive Director Pat Rowe NV 83, and Past President Peggy Allan IL 89. Ex-officio members are: Membership and Finance Chair Carol Strickland KS 99 and Director of Communications Art Peekel IL 92. The 2010 NSTOY Conference will be held in Estes Park, Colorado. The dates are: July 9-12 (arriving on the 8th, departing on the 13th); post conference is the 13th-14th. More information will follow in next month’s NSTOYeNEWS and on our website. The Silent Auction at this year’s conference raised $1,446.00 for the Scholarship Fund. Scholarship Chair Faye Shaw FL 71 thanks all who brought items. TOYs who did not attend are urged to send a contribution made out to the NSTOY Scholarship Fund to Carol Strickland KS 99, NSTOY Membership and Finance Chair, c/o National Teachers Hall of Fame, ESU Campus Box 4017, 1200 Commercial, Emporia, KS 66801. A motion was passed to continue to study the proposed constitutional change regarding membership (to include state finalists as NSTOY members). A proposal was also made that members be allowed to vote on constitutional changes by snail mail, e-mail, or electronic ballot in lieu of voting in person at the conference. Peggy Tordoff LA 75 was honored at the closing banquet with “Lifetime Membership” in NSTOY. Faye Snodgress, Kappa Delta Pi Executive Director, spoke at the conference about the “Speakers Bureau” which will give NSTOY members the opportunity to present at KDP functions around the country. Peter, brother of Terry Kaldhursdal WI 07, died June 29 at the age of 53, more than two years after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In the wake of his brother’s death Terry is making a documentary about end of life care. He would like to hear from TOYs with a story to tell.
